Week(end) Recap - Southtown's #FirstFriday

Movin' on to Friday...

Our Friday was pretty standard including unpacking, organizing, shopping for household goods, etc. Nothing exciting here, but as the day crept on, M&I got closer and closer to Southtown's (our 'hood) #FirstFriday.

Mike and I were thrilled to find out that we are a 8 minute walking distance to the Blue Star Arts Complex. Blue Star Arts Complex includes art, drinks, retail shops, and restaurants. There are a couple of places I am particularly interested in: Halcyon Coffee and Bar, 1919, and Stella Public House.

Blue Star's First Friday attracts a very diverse and interesting (and weirdish) crowd. Walking up through the complex's back alley to the entrance was definitely the "grunge" hangout spot - very movie-esque. As we hit the main stomping ground, which was the Blue Star Brewery pictured above, we were welcomed with live jazz music which was rocking. M&I grabbed a local brew - myself a hoppy IPA named the "Pale Ale" (fitting, right?) and M got the "Texican" -  which is basically SA's Bud light. #itslikewater.

We kept on walking and parked outside the Halcyon which has now turned from a coffee shop to a bar. We found a siiick DJ; unfortunately, I have no name. However, I did record a voice memo and if I can figure out a way to embed it, I will!

Blue Star Brewing Company - 4 out of 5 Stars
We ended our night inside the brewery where we grabbed some dinner. We had the special which was a brat hoagie with cheese, and sautéed peppers and onions. #nomnomnom

4/5 Stars - fo sho

We wanted to head down into the King William district further for the block party but we were wiped. Next #firstfriday though, WATCH OUT!

Next up, the Pearl Farmer's Market - MY FAVORITE THING TO DO!

  2. YUMMMMMM. I love the excitement of exploring a brand new city when traveling or moving. Jealous. And I totally love Texas. If it wasn't FL, it would have been TX for me.
