Week(end) Recap - SoBro Pizza and lick

By 7:00 AM , , , , , , , ,

Hi Y'all! (Was that convincing?)

We are San Antonio, Texas residents. Mike and I have gotten our first week off with a bang! Buckle in for a wild ride.

First Up: SoBro Pizza - 3 out of 5 stars

Sundried Tomato and Pancetta Calzone; SoBro Pizza in the Pearl District; Photos c/o of Google
SoBro Pizza (South Broadway) sits right in the heart of the Pearl Brewery and the Can Plant, a popular district for young foodies and home to several other fantastic restaurants. SoBro is bringing Naples style pizza to SA through fresh dough and homemade sauces and let me tell you, the ingredients were FRESH. In addition to the familiar italian pizzas and calzones, SoBro offers gelato, wine and craft beer on tap.

Sounds delish, right? So what is with the rating?! Price. I hate to say this but SoBro is way over priced. That calzone was intended to be split between Mike and I because everywhere else that you buy a calzone, they are typically enough to feed, like, seventeen people. Well, that calzone would have been just enough for me and it costs $10. I can get on board with the fresh ingredients and sauce and yahda yahda, but $10?! Their personal pan pizzas range from $17-18. #noway

The taste was on point and we were impressed with the service too. She felt bad for making us "wait" to get our check and boom, we got $3.00 off our bill. The people here are so nice!

lick - 5 out of 5 stars
So after leaving SoBro and still being a bit hungry, we decided to find some dessert. We walked one block down the street and ran into lick. lick was amazing. This Austin-based ice cream shoppe is known for their locally based ingredients and very unique flavors.

Pardon the photo - my iPhone 5 camera is broken -____-. That above is no justice to two of the weirdest but most delicious ice cream flavors I have ever had: Gorgonzola, Thyme, and Honey on the bottom and Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil, and Sea Salt on the top. I know, I know - sounds absolutely terrible. However, it was amazing. I can't even describe. Come visit me and you'll see.

Service - perfect. The guy let us try everything we wanted, made amazing recommendations, and even complimented Mike's shirt. Price - not bad at all $3 and change I think.

This, my friends, is just Thursday. There is much more to come! Stay tuned.
