How Much Can You Give This Season?

By 12:00 AM , , , ,

The holiday season is a special time in everyone's lives; you get to travel far and wide to see family, shop for that one special gift for your favorite person, and more importantly give back to your favorite charity, person in need, or church.

When talking to people about giving or donating, I find that everyone wants to do it, but it is the last thing on their minds when looking at their shopping lists during this season.

It is not easy to give generously.

Many people feel that if they make more money, then they would give more.

If they have any extra change laying around, then they will donate that change to the Boy Scouts.

If they remember to get the canned goods, then they will give to their local food pantry.

If they get around to cleaning out their closets, then they will donate that extra coat to the homeless.

However, the "if" seems to get lost and it turns into didn't.

Giving isn't about what you have, what you don't have, or how much you make. Giving is all about the willingness to do so.

Last, but not least, this is part of a link-up with Carly of Musings of a Wanderer

If you had 3 wishes that you couldn't spend on yourself, what would you wish for this holiday season?

  1. I love #5. People don't realize that "giving" goes way beyond the monetary. Giving includes your time and your talents. What a great post and great reminder to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Three things: 1. Asking God to Bless the efforts of #TeamWorldVision and that clean water and good health are provided to our sponsored children in Zambia, Frank and Lushomo. (Does that count as one or two?) 2. That family and friends will have a heart of gratitude and be thankful for the many blessings that God has already given us. 3. That one would come to know the Peace that only having a close personal relationship with Jesus can provide.

  2. Such a great post, it's easy to lose sight that giving isn't always monetary this time of year...

  3. Good question at the end....I would wish for good health for my dad, he is struggling with that lately, the courage to make tough choice for my brother and a new car for my sister because she sooo needs one and just cannot seem to find the $$. I think this is such a great post giving is one of the most important lessons of the holiday season that most people forget. We have made a tradition of it and that is one of my favorite parts. We always donate toys to the local hospitals for the kids less fortunate than ours.

    1. I will definitely be praying for you.

Have you and your sister explored Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University? You must certainly try it if she is going through Financial Times. It absolutely changed my life!

  4. Such a great post. Giving doesn't have to material. You can always give of your time at a food pantry or at a nursing home.

  5. This is a great post. While I don't have anything to give, I could use the help, but I don't feel I need it AS BAD as others.. However, I did ask 6 bloggers if they would like a blog makeover for free. That's the only thing I can give to people.
